The task

Schysst käk is a Swedish food company that makes home kebab. Their vision is that food should be easy and fast to make, as well as appreciated by the whole family. The assignment in the course Product Development in Media Technology using the "Design-build-test" method, was to find a company to work towards. We decided on Schysst käk. The challenge they gave us was the following

"The goal is to create a modern recipe application that is easy, funny, and doesn't have any unnecessary stuff. Inspiration, quick recipes, unexpected functions, and extra all packaged in a simple and functional solution."

The process

Research

The process began with a research phase that was initiated by examining existing recipe services, gathering information about Schysst käk, and examining the target group

Existing services that were investigated included Köket.se, Ica, and The Mix. These websites were evaluated based on useful content and content that we wanted to avoid in our solution. Information about Schysst käk was collected from Schysst käk's website to investigate what existing information we had to work with.

Target group

The target group is adults with children living at home. Most are in the middle of life and trying to figure out the life puzzle with all that it entails. They value time-saving and simple recipes. The target group was analyzed through a survey created with Google Forms. We looked at marital status, their relationship to cooking, and how they involve their children in the kitchen, among other things.

Brainstorming and prototyping

After brainstorming, we landed on three different concepts and a requirements specification for each concept was produced. The concepts that were developed came to be called "Cook together", "child fun" and "what kebab are you?". All three concepts differed and had different ways of approaching the target group as well as the aim of the original task.

When the Hi-fi prototypes were completed we did several user tests to ensure that our application satisfied the requirements we specified at the beginning of the process. The tests was carried out in three phases. Prior to the first test phase, the group developed test protocols for the different prototypes. The protocols included formalities, instructions, and interview questions for the test person. The three prototypes were then tested against a number of selected users.

The final result

Based on customer feedback and test results the ”Laga tillsammans” concept was chosen. “Laga tillsammans” allows families and friends to cook together as a fun activity. The concept is a game where users choose a recipe, create a team, and then get assigned different tasks required to finish the dish.

The sub-tasks of the recipe are distributed within the team as the game progresses. When a participant has completed their task, they click on it to get a new task. It is possible to join the game on different devices and the game is adapted for children via the "Kids Chef" mode. It’s a concept that makes cooking a fun activity for the whole family where everyone needs to contribute.
